AC Milan legend Franco Baresi has warned that the Serie A giants should not underestimate Tottenham, remarking that the North London club will prove a difficult opponent.
Tottenham sealed the top spot in Group D with a win at Marseille last week and they learned on Monday that they will be taking on Milan in the Round of 16 stage of the Champions League.
Spurs last faced Milan in 2011 at the same stage of the competition, with a Peter Crouch goal in the first leg at the San Siro proving the difference between the two sides.
The Rossoneri have made an impressive start to the season, currently sitting in second place in the Serie A table while Tottenham have had a downturn in results over recent weeks.
There is plenty of time to go before the two sides square off in February but Baresi believes Milan have what it takes to overcome Antonio Conte’s men and book their place in the quarter-finals of the Champions League.
He told Sport Mediaset: “There were more famous teams, but they should not be underestimated. They have a great manager in Conte, whom we know well, but we are ready and mature, and are in a position to play two great games.
“We respect Tottenham, Conte knows our football, it will be difficult like in any Champions League match, but we have to think big and ambitious. Last year’s experience helped us a lot, we can meet the height of this round. The players have grown a lot, in every department.”

The second leg being at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium is a huge bonus for Spurs and I would back us to overcome Milan as long as we come into the second leg with no more than a one-goal deficit.
There is a long way to go until February but if our key players are fit at that time, there is no reason why we cannot book our place in the quarterfinal.
