‘More liberty as a player’ – Ex-Argentina star tips Spurs man for success in N17

Former Argentina striker Dario Felman believes Giovani Lo Celso can be a success at Tottenham and claims he does not need to leave the club to achieve that.

The 25-year-old joined Spurs on loan from Real Betis in August 2019 before the move was made permanent in January 2020.

Spurs pushed to sign Lo Celso after an impressive 2018/19 season with the Spanish side, in which he recorded 16 goals and six assists in all competitions, but he has endured a rather turbulent stint in North London thus far.

The Argentine has failed to hit the heights he set during his time at Betis, suffering a host of injuries and struggling to make much of an impact when given the opportunities in the side.

However, fellow compatriot and Boca Juniors icon Felman believes Lo Celso has actually grown as a player and does not need to move away from Spurs to be a success.

Speaking to Tribal Football, he said: “A very interesting type of Argentinean player, left-sided, ‘atrevida’ (daring).

“He found a family in Argentina at the Copa America and he has grown at Tottenham, he has been given more liberty as a player.

“If his family are happy there too, I’m not sure that he needs to move away from the London club. It’s also thanks to the Argentine manager Scaloni that Celso has grown as a player.”

Spurs Web Opinion

It is fair to say that Lo Celso has not lived up to expectations since making a big-money move to Spurs a couple of seasons ago.

Injuries have not helped, but the performances when he has been available have not been good either. Hopefully, there will soon come a point where it will start to click for him at the club.
