Alasdair Gold has revealed that Tottenham have considered appointing Julian Nagelsmann twice before and the German had responded positively on both occasions.
Until a few days ago, reports indicated that Tottenham did not stand much of a chance of appointing Nagelsmann (Matt Law).
However, the situation appears to have changed after the German withdrew himself from contention for the Chelsea job, with reports over recent days indicating that he is ‘tempted’ by the prospect of taking over in N17 (Sport Bild).
The Telegraph revealed on Monday that the German remains Spurs’ top target but he is seeking assurances regarding wage bill and transfer spending before agreeing to take over at the club.
It was asserted by talkSPORT’s Alex Crook on Tuesday that while Nagelsmann was initially hesitant about the idea of replacing Antonio Conte at Tottenham, he is now coming around to the idea.
Gold has now revealed what he has heard about the club’s pursuit of the 35-year-old amidst the increasing speculation.
When asked about Nagelsmann, the journalist said in a Q&A on Football.London: “The suggestions from German certainly seem to be that he’s more open to Spurs now after dropping out of the running for the Chelsea job as well as Carlo Ancelotti looking like remaining at Real Madrid for another year.
“Spurs were never keen on being a fall-back option but when it comes to Nagelsmann, his ability to be both their glamour appointment and project manager might just override that if they were to undertake and hold positive talks.
“Tottenham have considered him twice before and the response from his camp on both occasions was positive.
“The first time Spurs went for Jose Mourinho instead and the second time Bayern came in and grabbed the young coach.
“If Nagelsmann shows any indication to Tottenham that he wants to make it third time lucky, Levy should leap at the chance.”

The Carlo Ancelotti development at Real Madrid is certainly a big boost to Spurs as that does not leave Nagelsmann with too many other options.
While he could wait for the PSG job to open up, the German might be quite wary of that job since it would be very similar to the Bayern one as anything besides winning the double would be considered a failure.
