‘More than good enough’ – Ashley Phillips is getting more rave reviews on loan from Spurs

Ashley Phillips continues to impress one and all, with the centre-back once again getting plenty of plaudits following Plymouth Argyle’s 1-0 win over Swansea City on Saturday.

Phillips arrived at Tottenham last summer with a big reputation, having shown maturity beyond his years after breaking into Blackburn Rovers’ first-team last season.

The centre-back made Spurs’ matchday squad on several occasions during the first half of the campaign but despite the injuries that Ange Postecoglou’s men had at the back, the teenager failed to make a senior appearance for the Lilywhites.

The North London club decided to loan Phillips out to Plymouth last month so that the youngster can get competitive minutes under his belt, with Radu Dragusin arriving through the door at Hotspur Way.

The former Blackburn man has started every single game for the Championship side since his move a few weeks ago and his reputation is growing with each appearance.

Ashley Phillips is already a hit at Plymouth Argyle

Plymouth emerged with a hard-fought win from the Liberty Stadium on Saturday, with Phillips helping Ian Foster’s men keep a clean sheet.

Plymouth Live have the on-loan Tottenham man a rating of seven out of 10 and wrote about his performance: “It is impressive how much of a physical presence that Phillips has about him at the age of just 18.

“After four successive starts for the Pilgrims since arriving on loan from Tottenham Hotspur it is already clear he is more than good enough to play at Championship level.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Seeing the way Phillips is developing, Tottenham might not need to enter the market for another centre-back next summer, with the 18-year-old potentially appearing ready to be a first-team option at Spurs.

Perhaps, the North London club will be tempted to loan the teenager to a Premier League side next summer so that he can test himself at the highest level.
