Morgan Gibbs-White has provided an interesting reason as to why Nottingham Forest were able to emerge comfortable winners against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.

Tottenham came into the clash on Sunday with some momentum after emerging with a hard-fought draw from Liverpool last week and earning a deserved win against Atletico Madrid on Wednesday.

The atmosphere at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium was electric at kick-off, with fans getting behind the team, and the home side did start the game strongly, dominating proceedings and creating a few opportunities.

However, Spurs were unable to make the most of them and were made to pay by the away side, who took the lead against the run of play at the end of the first period, before adding two more in the second half to claim a comfortable 3-0 win.

Morgan Gibbs-White claims Nottingham Forest showed more fight and desire than Tottenham

Gibbs-White conceded that Tottenham started the game as the better side, adding that the North Londoners have ‘incredible talent’ in their side.

However, the 26-year-old insisted that the Tricky Trees showed more fight, hunger and desire than the home side, which is why they emerged victorious.

The midfielder told BBC Match of the Day: “Massive three points for us, especially with how the Premier League table looks now. The boys were absolutely incredible. Tottenham are a really good team and they started playing better than us. We needed to be together as a team and we showed that. But as soon as we got the second goal, we got that edge to breathe a little bit.

“They have got incredible talent, but we showed that fight, hunger and desire more than them. When we had our chances, we took them. It was a perfect time to score the opener that allowed us to play football again.

“I am pleased how the week has gone and the boys deserved it. Taking a win today going into the international break is perfect for us. We can all relax a bit and hit the ground running with positive vibes coming into the next weeks.”

Are Spurs going down without a fight?

As the Forest captain outlined, hunger and fight are arguably more important than sheer quality in a relegation battle, with teams needing to scrap for every point.

There is a question mark about whether this Tottenham squad has those qualities, as these players are not used to being in such a position.

Right now, it appears as if Spurs are going down without a fight, with the club having not won a Premier League fixture for nearly three months.

Cristian Romero has insisted that Tottenham now have seven finals to save their season, but most supporters will not be too optimistic that the team can turn around their form.
