Mourinho asked why Serge Aurier was not included in squad against Brighton

Jose Mourinho described his decision to drop Serge Aurier from the Tottenham squad against Brighton last night as a ‘technical’ one, with Moussa Sissoko taking up the right-back duties.

Aurier started the match against Liverpool on Thursday at right-wing-back but was hauled off at half-time after Spurs conceded just before the break.

There were reports after the 3-1 loss to Jurgen Klopp’s side that Aurier had stormed out of the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium at half-time.

The Telegraph first reported that the Ivorian did not take kindly to being taken off and subsequently left the ground before the final whistle.

The Daily Mail then reported that things ‘kicked off’ in the changing room at the interval and that Spurs stars were left stunned by Aurier’s outburst.

Matt Doherty, who played at both left-wing-back and right-back against the Reds, was an unused substitute in the loss to Brighton last night.

However, Jose Mourinho argued that Sissoko played well at right-back last night, hence why he was happy with the decision to leave Aurier out.

He said (Football London): “It was a technical decision and I’m happy with the decision because I thought Moussa Sissoko played well.”
