Mourinho claims he could have changed Harry Kane’s career in fresh dig at Spurs

Jose Mourinho has been discussing his time at Tottenham Hotspur again of late, and he suggested he could have given Harry Kane the one thing he’s missing in his career: a trophy.

When the Special One arrived at Tottenham in 2019, many suspected he could be the one to end the club’s trophy drought.

However, Mourinho lasted just 18 months in the role, and was sacked just before the end of the 2020/21 campaign. The odd thing is, he was dismissed just six days before the Carabao Cup final.

Ryan Mason was put in temporary charge until the end of the season, and ultimately lost that cup final 1-0, with Manchester City lifting the trophy.

Spurs have struggled to get anywhere near a cup final since then, and Harry Kane moved on last summer in search of silverware. However, he failed to achieve that goal in his first year with Bayern Munich, despite his best efforts.

Jose Mourinho would have won the Carabao Cup with Spurs

According to Mourinho, that lack of silverware is the only thing holding Kane back from true greatness now. And, the Portuguese coach insists he would have delivered that for the striker and Spurs had he been kept in his post for the Carabao Cup curtain closer.

Speaking to Topps, Mourinho said: “Kane has scored goals for Tottenham, England, and I had no doubts that he would score goals for Bayern.

“Harry is a fantastic, complete player who scores goals from all over the pitch but isn’t selfish – he assists, drops deep, builds play, presses, defends. The only thing he is missing is to win a trophy. He was my player at Tottenham, and I was going to win one with him, but I was sacked six days before the final.”

To be honest, it’s hard to argue with this. Mourinho wins cup finals, he had got us that far, and no matter how bad the situation may have been, it was truly ridiculous to sack him when we did. Absolutely no doubt we would have won that cup with him at the helm.
