Jose Mourinho claimed that was would not go home upset with his players this evening after the Lilywhites lost 3-1 at home to his former club, Manchester United.
Spurs took the lead in the first half through Heung-min Son after the Red Devils had a goal disallowed due to a foul on the South Korean in the build-up.
However, while Tottenham went into the break a goal to the good, United brushed them aside in the second half and notched up three goals to win 3-1.
Despite this defeat at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Mourinho claimed that his players gave everything they could and remained committed to fighting for a result. He also added that Spurs would have deserved a different result from the game.
Unfortunately, the reality is that Tottenham are now six points short of fourth place and have a mountain to climb if they wish to make the top four.
Mourinho said (Football London): “Yeah, they have a fantastic away record. Why? They’re a very good team, but it’s the kind of defeat where I am not going home upset with my players.
“They gave what they can, and they gave it in two difficult situations. When they scored the first goal and the second goal, our best chances in the game were after they scored the first and second goal.
“We chose that mentally, emotionally the team was strong, was committed and was fighting to win the match.
“So I don’t want to go deep on my analysis, simply give a compliment to a very good team that won the match and also give my compliments to a team that lost but full of players, full of professionals who gave everything they had to try to get a different result, which in my opinion we would deserve.”
Spurs Web Opinion:
These comments very much sound like Mourinho is saying his Spurs players gave all they could but are simply not good enough to match a side like Man United.
