Jose Mourinho rang the changes against Bayern Munich in the Champions League on Wednesday, which seemed only natural as there was nothing actually riding on the game.
Spurs and Bayern had both guaranteed a second and first place finish respectively in the group, and no result on the night could change that, making it little more than a friendly.
Mourinho left Harry Kane, Jan Vertonghen, Toby Alderweireld, and Serge Aurier at home, while rotating in the likes of Walker-Peters, Rose, Foyth, Lo Celso, Eriksen, and Sessegnon.
Few Spurs players managed to impress on the night in Germany, but Sessegnon was able to grab his first goal for the club in a bright opening half-hour for the teenager.
Juan Foyth also looked solid, composed, and confident at the back alongside Toby Alderweireld, which has seemingly done his career no harm.
Mourinho singled out the Argentine as a player he was particularly impressed with on Wednesday. He also added that Foyth would not be loaned out in January.
#thfc Asked about his fringe players, Mourinho says he was particularly impressed with Foyth in Munich & says he will not go on loan in January.
But rules out him or Lo Celso playing Sunday. And says he does not expect Sessegnon to play left-back this season.— Dan Kilpatrick (@Dan_KP) December 13, 2019
#thfc Mourinho pushed on which fringe players impressed him in Munich: “Do you want a name, just to be happy? Foyth, he was very stable, solid, very calm. He played very, very well. I’m very happy with his performance.”
