Mourinho complains that Saints are ’24 hours fresher’ than Spurs ahead of FA Cup clash

Tottenham Hotspur come into the FA Cup fourth round off the back of the Premier League win in mid-week against Norwich City.

Spurs defeated the bottom of the table team 2-1 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium thanks to an opener from Dele Alli and a late winner from Heung Min Son.

Tottenham will surely be hoping to kickstart some positive 2020 form are a difficult beginning to the new year, which all started at Southampton.

Spurs visited St Mary’s on January 1 and lost the match 1-0, while also losing Harry Kane, Moussa Sissoko, and Tanguy Ndombele to injury.

While Spurs last played on January 22 against Norwich, Southampton have not featured since the day before when they won 2-0 away to Crystal Palace.

Jose Mourinho made sure to complain in his pre-match press conference that the Saints had been gifted an extra 24 hours to rest and prepare. However, he did have plenty of nice things to say about his upcoming opponents too.

He said (FourFourTwo): “What do I expect? I expect a team that is 24 hours fresher than another because they have 24 hours advantage in relation to that.

“A team with big self-esteem and confidence. Again, a very difficult team to play against, we learned there that it is hard and it is going to be hard.

“They are strong, they found a pattern of play, they play with two strikers and they have four or five.

“They are strong and apart from the game they lost against Wolves they win, win, win, win. Wolves is one of the teams where you can lose because they are also a very, very good team.”
