Mourinho confident that 23-year-old will ‘prove a valuable addition’ to the squad

Tottenham Hotspur have started the season on fire in the attacking third of the pitch but there have been some question marks over their defending.

The Lilywhites have lost crucial points already due to their inability to defend set-pieces and the manner in which they threw away their three-goal lead against West Ham has seen a lot of fingers being pointed.

Davinson Sanchez has come under criticism for some of his displays, while reports indicate that Jose Mourinho and his coaching staff are not confident in the Eric Dier-Toby Alderweireld partnership.

The club will be hoping that Joe Rodon, who arrived at Spurs from Swansea on EFL transfer deadline day, will be able to make an impact this season.

The centre-back is yet to make his Tottenham debut and could not do so against LASK as he was not signed early enough to have been named in the club’s Europa League group stage 25-man squad.

However, Mourinho did back the defender to be a valuable addition in his matchday column, ahead of his side’s 3-0 win.

He wrote (as relayed by Football.London): “I would like to welcome Joe Rodon to the club, following his recent move from Swansea City.

“I am sure he will prove a valuable addition to the squad and adds further depth to our defence.”
