Tottenham fans can breathe a huge sigh of relief as Jose Mourinho has admitted that he expects Hugo Lloris, Giovani Lo Celso and Steven Bergwijn to be fit for the clash against Chelsea on Sunday.
Mourinho made ten changes to the side against Ludogorets on Thursday but one player who did keep his place in the team from the 2-0 win over Manchester City was midfielder, Tanguy Ndombele.
Lo Celso was not even named on the bench, with Alasdair Gold confirming ahead of kick-off that the Argentine had picked up a knock in training.
Some Spurs fans feared the worst, especially since the midfielder had only recently recovered from an injury.
However, Mourinho confirmed in his press conference ahead of the clash on Sunday that all three players were rested against Ludogorets as a precaution.
Spurs face a tricky period in the Premier League over the next month, with fixtures against Chelsea, Arsenal, and Liverpool.
When asked if Lloris, Bergwijn and Lo Celso will be back on Sunday, the Spurs boss told Football.London: “I want to believe yes. We could push but we didn’t want to risk, and this 12 players on the bench [in European games] gives you space for everything.
“It gives even you space to have a 16-year-old kid in there and give him a chance to make history with Tottenham. So with 12 players – Aurier right-back, Reguilon left-back, Dier CB, Sissoko midfielder, you have players in every position, that’s very good.”
Mourinho was then asked whether the trio were injured, to which he responded: “Little things. Things that if I wanted to push, if I wanted to risk a little bit they could do it [in the Ludogorets match].”
