Mourinho directly addresses Harry Winks walking down tunnel after being subbed

Jose Mourinho looked to nip one particular storyline in the bud tonight after his side defeated Royal Antwerp 2-0 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

The Spurs head coach claimed that Harry Winks had walked straight down the tunnel after being substituted before the half-hour mark because he was asked to.

Mourinho revealed that he had specifically instructed players to get warm in the changing rooms after being taken off, although Winks was the only one to carry out such actions.

Winks has found minutes hard to come by of late, with most of his action coming in the Europa League. However, he didn’t even make the hour mark tonight against Antwerp.

The academy graduate played rather well in the first half with some tough tackling and positive passing, but it was not enough to earn a 90-minute run-out.

Winks has made just four Premier League appearances this season, missing out on three of the last four matchday squads altogether (TransferMarkt).

On Winks walking down the tunnel, Mourinho said (Jonathan Veal): “I told him to go, I told every player that left the pitch to go because when the weather is cold I prefer they go. I told them to go, some prefer to stay. Winks decided to go and I am happy with that”
