Mourinho explains why he slept at Hotspur Way ahead of Burnley game

Tottenham head coach Jose Mourinho has revealed that he slept at Tottenham’s
Hotspur Way training ground ahead of their game against Burnley in order to prepare for the Premier League clash.

Spurs suffered their first defeat since the Portuguese manager took over on Wednesday night when they were on the receiving end of a 2-1 defeat by Manchester United.

The new Spurs boss admitted after the game at Old Trafford that he wanted the team to be angry after a defeat and produce a reaction rather than being sad (Football.London).

He certainly got the reaction he was hoping for against Burnley. Spurs played some scintillating football and played their opponents off the park right from kick-off.

Mourinho claimed that the dominating performance wasn’t exactly a coincidence as he stayed at Hotspur Way overnight after the defeat against United to prepare for the game and ensure his players were fully clued up on Burnley.

BBC Sport quotes the Spurs boss as saying, “I didn’t go home, so the next morning at eight o’clock I was here doing what? Burnley.

“Analysing Burnley, trying to organise the training session, trying to organise the meeting, choosing the clips to show them the most clear possible way Burnley works.

“That’s the way you have to do it in football. Don’t accept in a passive way.

“It’s obvious we have problems but we have players with quality, a great human dressing room.

“I like the guys very much but we need to change that feeling of feeling sorry about our mistakes and feeling sad with our bad results.”

While I was appalled by the decision to sack Pochettino when it happened, with the benefit of hindsight, I feel it was a perfect call by Levy to bring Mourinho in. A change was clearly needed at the club as things had gotten stale under Pochettino. Mourinho’s appointment seems to have given a huge lift to both the players and the fans.
