Mourinho explains why the Spurs players have little time off at present

Games have come thick and fast since Jose Mourinho took over as the new head coach of Tottenham Hotspur.

The 56-year-old has had to contend with having a match nearly every three days and as a result, has not had a full week on the Hotspur Way training field with his new squad.

While the Portuguese manager has made some tactical modifications to the side, he has admitted that he would love to get a free week to work with his squad in order to get them accustomed to his ideas.

Tottenham have been free-scoring since Mourinho took over but their defensive issues have persisted.

The new Spurs boss will not have a full week to work with the players until after Spurs face Chelsea on December 22nd.

He has admitted that while he would have liked to given his new players some time off, he claimed that he wouldn’t be able to do so due to the team’s tight schedule.

Speaking to Football.London, Mourinho said: “We are going to have a week which is the week that ends with the Chelsea game [22 December], that week is a free week.

“Probably in normal conditions, it would be nice for the players to have some days off, but is the kind of week where is my only chance to have them. So we are going to work that week.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Any criticism of the new Spurs boss and his coaching staff at the moment is rather unfair given that he has had an unrelenting schedule since he took over at the club. I believe Mourinho will be able to solve the team’s defensive issues if he has more time to work with the players.
