Mourinho gives Gareth Bale update when asked if Welshman will start on Sunday

It is fair to say that most Tottenham fans have not looked forward to a Premier League match as much as the upcoming one against West Ham for quite some time, with Gareth Bale reportedly in line to make his second debut for the club (Sun).

Reports indicate that the Welshman is fit to play a part in the London derby after being put through the paces at Hotspur Way for the last couple of weeks.

The club have been teasing Spurs fans for the past few days with videos of Bale finding the back of the net in training with typically deadly finishes from his left boot.

With all players now back from international duty, Mourinho was asked if the 31-year-old will start on Sunday and the Spurs boss insisted that the decision he makes will be one that is best for the team, as well as Bale himself.

Speaking to Sky Sports (as relayed by Football.London), the Tottenham boss said: “The team is the most important thing. Gareth is here to help the team but at the same time we care about him, we care about the body.

“The decisions we are going to make will be for the good of the team but also for his own good.

“It is very, very important he has a happy season with us and I think at this moment in his career that is very, very important.”

Reading between the lines, it sounds as if Bale will be on the bench for Sunday and could be brought on for a twenty to thirty-minute cameo in the second half. However, if there is one thing we learned from Mourinho’s antics over Son’s injury last week, it is that you can never quite take what he is saying at face value. I would not be surprised if the Welshman did get the nod to start.
