Mourinho hints Harry Kane will use Spurs trophy drought to motivate him

Former Tottenham Hotspur boss, Jose Mourinho, has claimed that Harry Kane will use his lack of trophies in North London to fire him up ahead of the European Championships this summer (Scottish Sun).

Harry Kane has arguably the most impressive season of his career so far this year, winning both the golden boot and playmaker awards in the Premier League.

Playing under the Special One for the majority of the season, Kane managed a staggering 33 goals and 17 assists in just 49 games across all competitions. That’s more than one goal contribution per game.

However, the England captain once again finished the campaign empty-handed, with Spurs losing to Man City in the League Cup Final and getting knocked out of the Europa League by Dynamo Zagreb in embarrassing fashion.

Kane goes into the summer with real hopes of winning the Euros as England boast one of the strongest squads. Mourinho claims that the Spurs striker will do everything to win with his country because he is falling short with his club.

He said: “Harry (Kane) is the one that has on his shoulders a lot.

“The country expects a lot from him. He expects a lot from himself.

“He’s the captain and he wants to win something. He’s not doing that with the club, so, of course, he’s going to try everything he can to do it with the Three Lions.

“This is a generation full of good players, even the young players. The squad is amazing. England has to go with everything.

“The group phase is at home. The semi-finals and final is at home. It has to be now, because it was in 1966. I think they have to push with everything.”
