Mourinho hints that six other teams could win the Premier League besides Spurs

Spurs head coach, Jose Mourinho hinted that six other teams besides Tottenham could challenge for the Premier League title this season.

Mourinho also admitted that the team learned from the mistakes they made against West Ham and insisted that they are better for it.

Spurs astonishingly drew against the Hammers after being 3-0 up going into the final ten minutes of the game and they came under plenty of criticism for defensive errors made towards the end of the game.

However, Mourinho’s men have become a lot tighter at the back since the London derby, having conceded just one goal in their three league games against Burnley, Brighton and West Brom.

When asked what changed after the West Ham game, the Tottenham boss told Football.London: “I said that we were speaking a lot about it and working a lot about that situation.

“I am not going to say we are not going to lose matches or lose points in the last minutes, it can happen to anyone.

“We felt the pain against West Ham and since then strategically the team is behaving in a different way. The two clean sheets at Burnley and this afternoon showed the lesson – a team in the last five minutes that was very solid, it looked like the pain made a positive effort and the team improved after that.”

The result sent the North Londoners to the top of the table temporarily before Leicester beat Wolves to climb to the summit.

The Tottenham boss has so far remained tight-lipped on the possibility of his side challenging for the Premier League title and continued to insist after the win against West Brom that he wants his players to take it one game at a time.

Speaking after the win at the Hawthorns, he said: “When a team is champion or plays for the title, there is always a direct relation to your direct opponents. I would say that this team could be champion in many European countries.

“The Premier League is the most difficult one to be, because in the Premier League you can do a good season, can have lots of points, but in the end… Liverpool, Man City, Chelsea, Man United, Leicester, Arsenal.

“So you can have a good season and not be champion. So what can we do? We go match after match. We try to win, we don’t care about the others.

“I promise you I’m not worried about Leicester v Wolves, or City v Liverpool. If Liverpool wins, it is because City loses points. If Leicester wins, it is because Wolves dropped points.

“So I don’t care, I just want the team to play match after match, and then at the end of the season let’s see where we are.”
