Mourinho makes claim on whether Lo Celso will start matches over Christmas

Tottenham Hotspur fans have not had too many opportunities to see their new signing Giovani Lo Celso in action so far this season.

The Argentine has started just three matches in a Lilywhite shirt, with just one coming under Jose Mourinho. However, he did score on his full debut in the Champions League against Red Star Belgrade.

Lo Celso has not yet been given an extended run in the Tottenham team, largely feeding off cameos from the bench.

However, with heavy fixture congestion over the Christmas period, Mourinho has revealed that Lo Celso will be starting games, as the manager cannot name the same eleven every single match.

In the current Spurs formation under Mourinho, you would expect Lo Celso to either play as a deep-lying playmaker in a central midfield two, or as an attacking midfielder/winger on the right where Moura and Sissoko have been operating in recent weeks.

Mourinho said (Football London): “He’s our player. Our squad is not a big squad in numbers, and he will start for sure because It’s impossible to play all the time with the same players. It looks obvious the way Dele is playing, Sonny. In this moment they are one step ahead. I couldn’t hide from you that we have a few players one step ahead because of performance.”
