Mourinho mocks his defence after draw at Norwich

On the back of Tottenham’s 2-2 draw against Norwich City at Carrow Road, Jose Mourinho has joked that the team is making so many defensive mistakes that Amazon could dedicate an episode to defensive errors in their ‘All or Nothing’ series that comes out next year.

The Lilywhites conceded two sloppy goals yesterday which eventually ended up costing them two points. Juan Foyth gave the ball away trying to play his way out of trouble and the home side ended up capitalising for their first goal.

After Spurs had got back into the game through an Eriksen free kick in the second half, Alderweireld and Aurier got into another tangle at the back which ended up with the Belgian’s clearance deflecting off the Ivorian into the back of the net.

While Spurs managed to get an equaliser through a Harry Kane penalty towards the end of the game, Mourinho was far from pleased with some of his side’s defending.

Speaking to the Daily Mail, the 56-year-old said, “I think the same defensive mistakes we made in the first half we made in the second half. This has been a little bit our history.’

“I think if Amazon want to do an episode they will for sure have one episode about our defensive mistakes and the goals that we concede.

“I think we start very well. We concede two very bad goals. The first and the one that was offside. Then in the second half I think we were very good with the ball. We create, we dominate.

“But again the goal is a very bad one. To score two goals away from home you have to win, you cannot concede the amount of goals we do. But our defensive mistakes are match after match.”

While our defenders did make too many individual errors in yesterday’s game, the match also showed why we need a natural defensive midfielder like Eric Dier to screen the defence. Ndombele is a quality player but sensing danger and screening the back four isn’t his best asset.
