Mourinho on whether he is prioritising the FA Cup or Premier League

There are some tough choices for Jose Mourinho to make this weekend ahead of Tottenham’s FA Cup clash against Southampton at St Mary’s.

The Spurs head coach played a full-strength team at home to Norwich City in the Premier League just days ago, closing the gap to six points between Tottenham and Chelsea.

Tottenham are now back in the race for the top four and Champions League football next season. However, they have not won a trophy since 2008. This begs this question, which should be prioritised, the Premier League or FA Cup?

The Premier League and Champions League qualification certainly pulls in more revenue, but Spurs fans are desperate to see their team lift a piece of silverware.

Jose Mourinho won the FA Cup with Chelsea back in the 2006/07 season, but he insists that he is not thinking about the names of the competitions, just the games in front of him.

Mourinho said (FourFourTwo): “It is just a game, I don’t even want to think about the competition.

“If it was Southampton away in the Premier League it would be exactly the same for me. Nothing would change.

“In the league, it could be top four, top six, it can be out of the top six. In the league, it could be anything for us.

“In the FA Cup, let’s see. At this moment 32 teams, let’s try and be in the 16. Again, full respect to what Southampton is doing, we know it is going to be a very difficult match.”
