Mourinho opens up on developing Harry Kane into more than just a goal scorer

Jose Mourinho has opened up this week about the development of Harry Kane under his tutelage and making him more than just a goal scorer for Tottenham.

The stats certainly back up such a development, as Harry Kane has already scored 10 goals and assisted another eight in nine games this season (TransferMarkt).

The Spurs frontman is top of the assist charts in the Premier League with seven, as well as just two shy of the leading goal scorers Heung-min Son and Dominic Calvert Lewin.

Since the start of the new season, especially in the Premier League, we have seen this new style of link-up between Son and Kane. While the South Korean makes his trademark runs in behind, Kane drops deep and plays sweeping balls over the top to set him free.

Mourinho was keen to point out that this is a different Harry Kane, not only scoring goals but using his intelligence and technique to provide.

He told Sky Sports: “This is a different player, he scores lots of goals but he is so good technically, he is so intelligent in his tactical knowledge that he can be so much more than just a goal scorer. We are trying to be offensive and also, at the same time, try to be attractive in the way that we play. I think he fits very very well.”
