Mourinho opens up on his new dynamic and relationship with Joao Sacramento

Tottenham Hotspur not only waved goodbye to Mauricio Pochettino back in November 2019, but also the vast majority of his backroom staff, including Jesus Perez.

Therefore, it was down to Jose Mourinho, who was named as Pochettino’s successor just 24 hours later, to build his own team in North London.

The Special One decided to appoint Joao Sacramento as his new assistant head coach at Tottenham, with the young Portuguese footballing brain having performed a similar role for Lille in France.

Sacramento joined the club in November 20 and has been working with Mourinho ever since on the Tottenham rebuild.

Despite being a Portuguese former player who has worked a lot in France, this is not Sacramento’s first taste of UK life, as he earned his Master’s Degree in Sports Coaching and Performance at the University of South Wales. He then worked as a video analyst with the Wales national side.

Jose Mourinho opened up on his relationship and new dynamic with Sacramento at Spurs this season in his press conference today.

Mourinho said (Football London): “Joao is working with me as you know just at Spurs for the first time but I can say that we’ve worked together for a few years.

“He’s been at Monaco and then in Lille and our relationship comes from then. We can say that by talking, by changing opinions, by changing ideas, we know each other for quite a long time and I knew that he was going to be an assistant with quality because he has great talent and with great motivation.

“That’s because for him it’s the first time really he’s going to a league of our dimension, with the day by day challenge of our league, so I’m really, really happy with Joao. For him, it’s a new experience to be at this level.”
