Mourinho reacts to Reguilon breaking COVID rules after giving him Xmas present

Sergio Reguilon revealed earlier this week that Jose Mourinho had gifted him a suckling pig for Christmas because he knew the left-back would be alone on the festive day (AS).

Reguilon moved over from Spain when Spurs signed him from Real Madrid in the summer and COVID-19 rules restricted any form of travel to see his family.

However, it appears that Mourinho was misinformed about Reguilon’s Christmas plans, as the Spaniard was pictured in a large group with Erik Lamela and Giovani Lo Celso (Daily Mail).

Such a gathering broke COVID-19 rules and regulations, putting the Spurs stars at risk of contracting the virus and having to take time off from football.

Reguilon appeared on the bench today against Leeds United but was an unused substitute, while Lo Celso and Lamela were nowhere to be seen.

In his post-match press conference, Mourinho claimed that the club were disappointed in the trio and the incident came as a surprise to them.

He said (Football London): “I gave him [Reguilon] an amazing gift. A Portuguese piglet which is amazing. I gave him because I was told he would be spending Christmas on his own. He was not alone as you can see. We as a club feel disappointed. We give the players all the education and it was a negative surprise for us.

“I prefer to say disappointed (than angry). We know what we are internally. We don’t need to tell you the consequences, how we approached that negative surprise. I feel disappointed.”
