Mourinho reacts to Vinicius debut and reveals plans to play him alongside Kane

Tottenham Hotspur fans were treated to their first glimpse of Carlos Vinicius last night as he took to the North London turf against LASK in the Europa League.

Jose Mourinho named a much-changed XI for the group stage affair, including starts for both the Brazilian and Gareth Bale.

While Vinicius was unable to mark his debut with a dream goal, he did look extremely impressive in the number 9 role, even claiming two assists.

The striker on loan from Benfica set up the opening goal with a superb touch into the channel and a first time reverse ball to the feet of Lucas Moura for a tap in.

In the dying minutes of the game, Vinicius then popped up with a lovely cushioned header to play Heung-min Son in behind to make it 3-0.

While Mourinho claimed that is new number 45 played well, he also added that there is plenty more to come, even hinting that Vinicius could play alongside Harry Kane.

He said (Football London): “He played well but he can do better. He is a bit of a shame still, it is not easy not to speak English so the adaption to the group, in spite of having amazing guys that try to make him feel well, is not easy.

“Different football, different way to play, to think, learning the way we press, learning the attacking movements. He is still in a learning process, Vinicius can be much more than this. But first match I am really happy, the only thing that was missing was a goal. But we can see he is much more than, he is not selfish, he is a good target man, he can even play with Harry Kane when his good period arrives.

“He can play with Harry and not just be the guy to cover him. I am very happy and the feelings over everyone in the squad are good towards him.”
