Mourinho reveals Eric Dier and Daniel Levy’s opinions over a new contract deal

Tottenham Hotspur boss, Jose Mourinho, has now opened up on Eric Dier’s contract situation in North London amidst his return to central defence.

Mourinho has named Dier in his central back two for both games since the Premier League restart, with the England man impressing on each occasion.

However, Dier’s current deal is set to run out in the summer of 2021, with Spurs thus risking losing yet another player on a free transfer.

Mourinho has now revealed that Dier himself ‘very much’ wants to stay at Tottenham and sign a new deal. The Spurs boss also added that Levy has personally informed him of his desire to offer the defender a new deal.

Dier has now been at Tottenham for the past six seasons, racking up 237 appearances and 11 goals in that time (Wikipedia). Once a babyface youngster from Portugal, Dier is now one of the more experienced heads within the Spurs ranks.

Mourinho had this to say in his Zoom pre-match press conference today, as quoted by Football London’s Alasdair Gold: “My boss Mr Levy tells me that he wants Eric to sign a new contract and Eric tells me he is more than happy here, happy with his situation, especially now we have a certain idea for him and the team. He wants very much to stay.”
