Mourinho reveals one player who will play in Brighton match after impressing against Liverpool

Jose Mourinho has revealed that Joe Rodon will play again when Tottenham face Brighton at the weekend after the Welshman impressed at home to Liverpool.

Rodon started in a back three alongside Eric Dier and Ben Davies against the reigning champions at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium last night.

In a first half littered with defensive errors, Rodon was the one shining light, with a particular last-ditch challenge standing out as his best moment.

The relatively inexperienced centre-back was keen to fight for every ball in the air, while also sticking to his task against the likes of Mane and Salah.

Unfortunately, Rodon’s performance was slightly undermined by a second-half blunder during which he allowed a ball to run across his body for Mane to slam home.

However, it appears as if the error has not blemished the overall performance in the eyes of Mourinho, who had plenty of praise for Rodon, even revealing that he would play the next match.

Mourinho said (Football London): “Next game he plays for sure.

“He showed good personality, good concentration, was good on the ball. First half building well and going for duels.

“Not a coward for not to assume the duels, a brave boy to go for every duel, even against difficult opponents like they are.

“For me, his performance was very, very good, very solid. He made one mistake. Unlucky that it leads to their third goal, the goal that basically kills the game.

“When I have a player who makes one mistake, it doesn’t matter how big the mistake was, but completely out of the context of a very good, solid performance I only have to support the player and protect the player and the best way to do that is to play the next game for sure.”
