Mourinho reveals that Toby Alderweireld had doubts about his new Spurs contract

Tottenham Hotspur started this season with some uncertain futures on their books in the form of Toby Alderweireld, Christian Eriksen, and Jan Vertonghen.

The first two have since been solved, with Alderweireld signing a new Spurs deal and Eriksen transferring to Inter Milan in the January market. Jan Vertonghen’s future remains up in the air, with just six months left on his current contract.

Alderweireld signed a new contract that runs until 2023, with his previous deal also set to expire at the end of this season.

The defender then revealed that the club had shown him how much they rated him with a good financial deal, although he could have got more money elsewhere. Toby claimed that he chose loyalty (TalkSPORT).

Alderwerield also claimed that his wife wanted to remain in London, while Jose Mourinho also showed faith, stating that he had no doubts about staying.

However, Mourinho has now claimed that Toby, in fact, had a few doubts that needed settling.

Jose said (Football London): “I tried to persuade Toby when Toby told me he was having some doubts.”
