Mourinho reveals what Dele, Bergwijn, and Lucas told him that forced him to take them off

Tottenham Hotspur were knocked out of the FA Cup last night as they took on fellow Premier League side, Norwich City, in the fifth round.

Spurs were at home for the tie and took the lead in the first half, but failed to make their constant pressure tell as the game wore on.

Norwich capitalised on a Michel Vorm mistake in goal to equalise deep into the second 45 and somehow kept Spurs out through extra time.

The Canaries then scored three of their penalties, with Lamela, Parrott, and Fernandes missing for Spurs to seal the result.

While Dele Alli, Steven Bergwijn, and Lucas Moura all started the match, none of the three were still on the pitch at the final whistle.

With these three having to play near enough every minute of late to cope with the lack of Kane and Son, Mourinho claims they were feeling the effects last night.

He said all three told him that they could not carry on and Lucas and Bergwijn even added that they would pick up injuries if they ran any further.

Mourinho said (Football London): “I have to say that also fantastic Norwich fans but our fans they were fantastic with the team. They felt the effort, they felt the difficulties. They probably don’t know and if they don’t I have to say that Bergwijn, Lucas, Dele, all of them they told me I can’t carry on. I’m completely dead.

“Other players on the pitch they were also in big trouble. For example, Lo Celso was in big trouble and was absolutely phenomenal. The fans I think they were with the team until the last penalty kick which we missed.”

He added: “Of course I had, and sometimes people don’t understand my decisions, but they don’t know what is going on, Lucas and Bergwijn they told me immediately because I am very close to being injured’.

“So I had to take them out in a moment where the result is 1-0 and there is always a risk of happening what happened.”
