Mourinho reveals what happened with Steven Bergwijn injury and how he is doing

Jose Mourinho has now revealed exactly what happened with Steven Bergwijn during the international break, amidst mix reports regarding the Dutch winger.

It was first reported that Bergwijn had been sent home from the Netherlands camp after the national side deemed him not fit enough to play.

However, other outlets then claimed that Bergwijn was sent home due to an injury rather than a lack of fitness.

Mourinho revealed in his press conference today that the former PSV man was left out of the squad to face West Brom because he was injured, before reporting for national duty.

Upon arrival, the Dutch medical team analysed him and decided to send him back to Hotspur Way as he would not be ready in time for their next match.

Despite this, the Spurs head coach added that Bergwijn has spent the past two weeks recovering and is now available for selection against Man City.

Mourinho said (Football London): “He went to the national team injured. He was not involved vs West Brom because that week he was injured. Even so he reported to the national team, they had their medical team analysing him & they decided they didn’t want to keep him there because he wouldn’t be ready for the next match. He stayed here for the past two and in two weeks he’s recovered and he is available for tomorrow.”
