Mourinho reveals what he will do with potential runners-up Carabao Cup medal

If last night was a trial run for the Carabao Cup Final later this season, then Tottenham should be worried as they fell to a 3-0 defeat away to Manchester City.

Although the Lilywhites went toe-to-toe with Pep Guardiola’s side at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium earlier in the season, running away 2-0 winners, they couldn’t repeat the trick.

Spurs and City will meet for a third time this season in April when Wembley Stadium hosts the 2021 Carabao Cup Final, a competition that the Citizens have won for the past three years.

Meanwhile, Tottenham have been without a trophy of any kind in 13 years since they won the Carling Cup back in 2008.

Jose Mourinho has won silverware wherever he has gone in his senior managerial career and the Spurs head coach claims that he thinks Tottenham will beat City in the final.

However, he added that he would not want to keep any potential runners-up medal and will subsequently give it away if he is handed one.

He said (Standard): “If you ask me, ‘If you lose the final, what are you going to do with your silver medal?’

“I am going to say first of all I think I am going to win the final, and secondly if you want my silver medal I’ll give to you because I don’t want to keep it.”
