Mourinho reveals what Kane and Lo Celso told him about their fitness this month

Tottenham Hotspur managed to secure their first win in seven games as they took on West Ham in North London last night, with the match finishing 2-0.

Not only did the Lilywhites take home all three points, but a number of key players were able to get more minutes under their belts before the nine-day break.

Harry Kane played a full 90-minutes and even managed to grab his first post-lockdown goal, while Lo Celso returned from injury to also play the full match.

Jose Mourinho has now revealed that he was in constant communication with the Argentine regarding his fitness last night, with Lo Celso stating he felt fine to play the full game.

The Special One also revealed that Kane was the only player in the squad who wanted to play three of the 30-minute segments against Norwich City in a recent friendly in order to get his body back to fitness.

Mourinho said (Football London): “I said before the game I wouldn’t be surprised if Harry Kane scores. Is that fundamental for me? No. Is it fundamental for the team. 2-0 killed the game. It’s good for Harry, of course, it is because strikers, their happiness comes from team victories but also from numbers and goals they score. It was very good for him but even better for us.

“I rely a lot on the players’ feelings. For example Lo Celso today I was thinking not to give him 90 minutes and then in the end when I was communicating with him the feedback was always I’m fine. With Harry, it was the same. In our friendly against Norwich where we played four periods of 30 minutes, Harry was the only one who wanted to play three periods because he felt that his body needed it.

“It is very, very good for him and the fact he scored in the last minute is important. For him to be so strong in the last round to be so cool in front of Fabianksi shows he is in the right way. For us it was no panic. For us the main thing was a good reaction to the surgery. When the reaction from the surgery is good everything will come and he will score goals from us.”
