Mourinho reveals whether Alli will play in Europa League and if he expects him to stay

Tottenham Hotspur’s Dele Alli started the new season in the first XI against Everton on the opening weekend of the campaign.

However, the midfield man was taken off at half-time after what was a rather uninspiring half from the Lilywhites.

Many Spurs fans would have expected the England international to then be reinstated for the match against Lokomotiv Plovdiv in the Europa League, yet he was left at home.

Back in the Premier League at the weekend and Mourinho dropped Dele altogether once again when making the trip to Southampton.

Despite this, the Tottenham head coach has now revealed that Alli will travel with the squad to Macedonia this Thursday for their latest Europa League tie.

Mourinho was keen to point out that the midfielder would have a chance to prove himself in North London, while adding that he expected him to stay beyond the market shutting.

This comes after Dele has been linked with a potential move to PSG this summer (Telegraph).

Mourinho said (Football London): “Dele Alli will make the trip.

“I always said that Dele will have a chance. He’s coming. He’ll have a chance to perform and it’s important that he does. It’s important that every player does.

“[Yes] I see him staying. There is a tendency now that when a player performs or doesn’t perform to give responsibilities to coach because they gave him the right stick or didn’t. I always feel that 99% of the responsibility is the player. I, and the staff who work with the player, have 1%.”
