Mourinho says Ndombele ‘second to nobody’ but star still frustrates him

Jose Mourinho has claimed that Tanguy Ndombele is now second to no other player in terms of ability across Europe, which is certainly high praise indeed. However, the Spurs head coach added that the Frenchman continues to frustrate him in North London.

It was well documented that Ndombele and Mourinho didn’t see eye to eye last season, especially after the former was called out by the latter in a post-match interview.

Ndombele has even spoken to the press about his relationship with Mourinho, revealing that the two of them have put their differences behind them this season.

This has certainly shown on the pitch, with Ndombele playing a far more prominent role in the starting XI this season, showing exactly why Tottenham broke their transfer record to sign him.

So far this season, the French midfielder has played 40 games across all competitions, some in the number 10 role and some as a holding midfielder.

Mourinho had this to say about Ndombele before the Newcastle game (Canal Plus as relayed by Football London): “Tanguy, I have to be honest, Tanguy is the kind of guy who you always expect more than what he gives you, because he is so talented that you always expect more.

“More because the talent is amazing. You know I think by the talent point of view, by the creation in midfield, by the vision, he is second to nobody at this moment in European football.

“But the feeling is always that he has something more to give. He never reaches the limits of the effort, the sacrifice, even the ambition.

“So he is the guy that I love him as a player but frustrates me a little bit because I think he can be much better, much better than what he is.”

“When I see for example France and Tanguy was not playing, I don’t blame Didier [Deschamps]. I blame Tanguy, because he’s better than the other guys.

“He should show that every day in training and in every match.”
