Tottenham Hotspur’s record transfer signing, Tanguy Ndombele, completed another 90 minutes on the pitch last night in the Carabao Cup against Chelsea.
The Frenchman started in a central midfield three alongside Gedson Fernandes and Moussa Sissoko, with Ndombele as the more creative attacking outlet.
The win on penalties became Ndombele’s second 90-minute haul in the space of a week after he played the full game against Shkendija last Thursday.
Before these two matches, Ndombele had not played a full 90 under Mourinho since December 2019, showing real growth in recent times.
Ndombele joined Spurs for a club-record fee of £53.8m in the summer of 2019 from Lyon after impressing in both the Champions League and Ligue 1 (BBC).
In his press conference today, Mourinho showered his midfielder with praise, claiming that he is not only playing amazing but also with happiness in a Spurs shirt.
However, the head coach also admitted that there were still physical improvements to be made, adding that Ndombele could be ‘phenomenal’ in the future.
Mourinho said (Alasdair Gold): “Tanguy is playing amazing. I am very, very happy. You can feel the happiness. Physically he has to be better, he will be better. He can get better, he can be really phenomenal.”
