Mourinho snaps at journalist after implication that he has something to prove

Tottenham Hotspur are back in action this week as they welcome RB Leipzig to the new stadium in North London for an exciting Champions League encounter.

The match has Spurs vs Ajax vibes from last year, as an injury-hit Tottenham side goes up against a new and emerging European team.

Spurs will be without experienced stars such as Heung Min Son, Harry Kane, and Moussa Sissoko, with the former set to undergo surgery on his elbow. Sonny fractured his arm against Aston Villa at the weekend, despite playing on and netting a brace.

At this stage last season, Spurs dismantled Borussia Dortmund 3-0 at home in the Champions League, a result Mourinho would certainly take this time around.

However, Leipzig represent tough and in-form competition, as they currently sit one point behind Bayern Munich at the top of the Bundesliga table.

Meanwhile, Tottenham are down in fifth in the Premier League and 36 points behind Liverpool at the top.

When talking about young Leipzig manager Nagelsmann in his press conference, Mourinho ended up snapping at a particularly brave journalist.

On Nagelsmann, Mourinho said (Football London): “Hoffenheim before. Did very well. Next step Leipzig. Doing very well. If he goes in the same direction the next step will be even bigger. I wish him obviously the best.”

One journalist then asked: ‘He was linked with the Tottenham job before Pochettino left, does that give you something to prove?’

Mourinho replied: “To prove? After 20 years of career and 25 titles, to prove?”

The Mourinho segment of the press conference then ended.
