Moussa Sissoko shows support for under fire Spurs player on social media

Moussa Sissoko has congratulated his former Tottenham teammate, Harry Winks after the midfielder’s competent display in the club’s 5-1 win over NS Mura.

Winks was linked with a move away from Spurs during the summer transfer window after he struggled for game time for the majority of last season under Jose Mourinho.

However, the 25-year-old ended up staying put at his boyhood club, with sources claiming that he was keen to fight for his place under Nuno Espirito Santo.

The Times reported last week that while Tottenham were open to cashing in on Winks during the summer, the £40m price tag they put on the midfielder stopped Aston Villa and Everton from pursuing the England international.

Some Spurs fans on social media have urged the club to lower their valuation of midfielder and cash in on him when the window reopens in January.

However, Winks put in a decent showing in Tottenham’s Europa Conference League clash on Thursday, helping the home side to dictate proceedings.

The midfielder took to Instagram after the 5-1 win to write: “Important win last night. Good to be out there”, to which Sissoko responded: “Well done, Son.”

While the quality of the opposition yesterday left a lot to be desired, Winks demonstrated that he can be a very useful cog in the wheel when in games where Tottenham are dominating possession.

However, it remains to be seen if he can force himself into Nuno’s first-choice eleven given the other players he is competing with for the central midfield birth.
