Spurs will have to pay £30m+ clause for Moutinho

If Andre Villas-Boas wants to bring Joao Moutinho to Tottenham then it looks as if he will have to spend the best part of £30million to land his man.

Moutinho has been mooted as a possible replacement for Luka Modric who, let’s face it has one foot already out of the White Hart Lane exit and it’s just a matter of time before something is announced.

Moutinho’s current club Porto are keen to hold onto the midfielder who impressed during Euro 2012 for Portugal and are claiming that only a trigger of just over £30million in the 25-year-old’s contract will persuade them to sell.

AVB is a big fan of Moutinho and the player himself is known to be keen to link up with his former boss. Speculation from around the forums claims that AVB wants all his signings done and dusted before our pre-season tour to America later this month.

Porto coach Vitor Pereira told Abola: “We very much want him to stay and we are not looking to sell,”

“But this is football and you have termination clauses, for us he has been great and helped us achieve the results we have.”

  1. We must buy this guy, it’s not about money but we will not replace modric with a 10million pound player unless nobody knows who he is! The teams in the top four will pay the money if they have to and we must join them, sign this player levy and join the big boys. Coys

    • I'd sooner have a player who no one has heard of for £10 million. It's about what the player can do rather than what people say about them. £30 million is way too much to pay for ANY player.

  2. He is a good player but £30mill is too much. No point paying well over the odds to get a player just your scared of the void being left by another one leaving. It's time to get creative imo. Whats the point of having a scouting system when all people do is harp on about the same overpriced players.

Look at the work newcastle do. Bringing in talent like cabaye, tiote, ba and cisse , they explored a market that was untapped by the masses, and as a result brought in talent that provided them with great value for money.
Moutinho is no the only other centre mid who could earn his spurs in a tottenham shirt.

Here is a list of players who we should consider as replacement for Modric:
    Ever Benaga- £15mil (Personal Fav)
    Dani Parejo-£12-15m
    Josh McEachran-£8m
    Yohann Cabaye-£15m
    Arda Turan -£15-20m
    Ander Herrera (Personal Fav)-£15-20m
    Thiago (Barcelona)-£20m
    Moussa Dembele-£10-15m
    Marek Hamsik- £20-£25m
    Andrea Poli-£15m
    Ivan Rakitc- £12m
    Dzagoev-£15m

  3. Im not sure that we'll get 35m for Modric. Obviously, Modric wants to leave, but to say with such unblinking assurance that we should 'swap' him for a player unproven as yet in the prem. for 5m profit seems a little hasty.

Modric is 26? Moutinho 25? 30m should be able to buy you most players (Aguro went for 35?), for that sort of money, i think levy migh be setting his sights on a younger player, if not two.

  4. Good player but 30m come on????????????

Cabaye seems to be the obvious choice has prem experience and wud be 15m at the very max,and can score goals something Modric.never mastered !!!
