‘Music to the ears’ – Pundit argues Spurs fans will be cheering Haaland goals

Erling Haaland cannot stop scoring for Manchester City, and BBC Sport pundit Garth Crooks says that is good news for Tottenham Hotspur fans.

With Norway failing to qualify for the 2022 World Cup, Haaland has had plenty of time to sharpen his shooting skills with extra training, and it looks like he hasn’t lost his touch. Indeed, the 22-year-old has picked up right where he left off before the international break.

Manchester City comprehensively beat Leeds United 3-1 last night at Elland Road as their hunt for the Premier League title got back on track. Haaland scored two goals, taking his tally for the season to 20 league goals in 14 games (Transfermarkt).

It’s been a phenomenal start to life in Manchester for the young striker, and he shows no signs of slowing down. His goals will be crucial if City are to catch Arsenal at the top of the table, and many Spurs fans will probably be hoping he keeps it up and prevents the Gunners from claiming the title.

That’s a notion Garth Crooks seems to believe in, as he named Haaland in his Premier League team of the week and commented on the rivalry between Arsenal and Tottenham.

He said: “It’s quite conceivable [Haaland] could score as many as 40 goals this season, which is the worst possible news for Arsenal and music to the ears if you’re a Tottenham fan.”

Spurs Web Opinion

As much as we would all love for Tottenham Hotspur to win the title, that’s going to be a very big ask for us this season. Naturally, the idea of Arsenal winning the title is every Spurs fan’s worst nightmare and we really need the wheels to come off for them soon. Hopefully, Haaland is at his very best when Arsenal face Manchester City in February and he can take them down a peg or two.
