Some Spurs fans on social media have suggested that perhaps Tottenham’s 7-2 thrashing at the hands of Bayern Munich was not such a bad performance after all, on the back of the German side’s humiliation of Barcelona in the quarterfinals.
Tottenham’s 7-2 demolition at the hands of Bayern back in October was viewed as one of the club’s worst disasters in Europe.
The fact that former Arsenal youngster Serge Gnabry scored four goals on the night only made the result that much harder for Spurs fans to digest.
It was telling that Mauricio Pochettino only lasted for a month and a half in the Tottenham hot seat following the defeat to Bundesliga champions.
However, Hansi Flick’s men went one better than they did against Spurs last night when they put eight past a Barcelona side that were all over the place defensively.
Here’s how some Spurs fans reacted after Bayern inflicted what was Barcelona’s worst defeat in European history.
? Imagine Losing 2-8 To Bayern.
? Even Spurs Defended Better Than Barcelona.

Can’t call yourself a good team if you lose more than 7-2 to Bayern Munich imho.

Conceding 8 goals to Bayern? My club would never.

Now that there’s actually some room to make comparisons – I can assure you Spurs were much better when they lost 7-2 to Bayern than Barcelona have been

Bayern are simply unbelievable. What a team. High press and fast counter attack. None of this playing out from the back nonsense. Shows that the Spurs result wasn’t a fluke. That’s destroyed Barcelona.

Imagine conceding 8 goals. Better leave this to the Arsenal fans now. ?? https://t.co/etKJiKAoiZ

We are now better than Barca ?

When Bayern beat us we were shit, but gave them a game and they were clinical. Most of the goals that night were on the break with us chasing the game. Today was a battering, could and should have been double figures

It’s official, spurs are a better club than Barcelona

Spurs Web Opinion
As some have pointed out, our performance against Bayern in the 7-2 defeat was considerably better than Barcelona’s or even Chelsea’s in the previous round. In fact, I thought we were the better side in the first-half but the Germans were just clinical in front of goal in the second half. Bayern’s dominant displays in the Champions League since that result perhaps suggests that we were a little too harsh on Pochettino and our players after the defeat.
