‘My path will be long here’ – Cristian Romero opens up on time at Spurs

The 24-year-old has quickly established himself as one of the best defenders in the Premier League and is rated highly across the world of football.

Despite encountering some injury issues, Romero now has 43 appearances under his belt for Spurs (Transfermarkt).

The combative centre-half is currently struggling with a hamstring injury, with Argentina boss Lionel Scaloni unsure when Romero will feature during the World Cup (AS).

There was some suggestion that Romero’s injury was not entirely genuine and that he may have one eye on the World Cup (Michael Bridge) leading to some fans questioning his commitment to Spurs. Romero missed the last six games for Spurs before the international break (Transfermarkt).

Speaking to AS, Romero has commented on his feelings towards Tottenham Hotspur, praising the welcome he has received since joining the club.

He said: “Tottenham is a great club, from the first day I arrived here I am very happy. It’s a club that has everything at a sporting level. I’m sure my path will be long here.

“I am happy how they treat me, from the people and the fans, for me it’s important to feel that,” Romero added. “I hope, and show it on the pitch as I’ve been doing. I am very happy from day to day.”

The fact that Romero’s injury is worse than first feared is a real shame for the player, but it’s certainly put any worries to bed that he was avoiding playing for Spurs. Of course, Romero loves his country, but it’s clear that Tottenham means a lot to him, too.
