‘My players are heroes’ – Pochettino claims his boys are over-achieving

Tottenham Hotspur are currently embroiled in a tooth and nail fight for the top four in the Premier League against rivals Man United, Arsenal, and Chelsea.

Spurs had previously opened up a healthy lead over these three, and looked head and shoulders above them in quality as they pushed for the title.

However, after now dropping 14 out of the last 15 points in the Prem, Spurs are no longer even guaranteed a place in the top four, yet alone first place outright.

Spurs have been fighting against just about everything you could imagine this season, and not just their rival clubs.

The Lilywhites have been playing on four fronts, without having signed a single player in over a year, suffering from constant injuries, and playing every game so far away from home.

It may be a bitter pill to swallow for fans to see their club lose four of the last five games, but in reality, Pochettino believes they are doing extremely well all things considered.

He said (Football London): “I think our players deserve massive credit but I don’t want to criticise or create a problem. It’s only that the circumstances of Tottenham this season must be when someone wants to give an opinion about the team or the club, always you need to put in the circumstances. Not only to judge Tottenham because you see them play or their position in the table, it’s all the circumstance after nearly two years of playing at Wembley. Moving from one stadium to another, now moving again.

“I think my players are heroes and deserve a lot of credit. Always I am going to be what happens happens until the end of the season and I’m going to be happy and always for me they are going to be heroes because for me the circumstances are so tough. We are dealing and fighting against everything to be competitive. I think in the last few years we are so competitive.”
