‘My son’ – Serge Aurier says he is ‘proud’ of 22-year-old Tottenham star

Former Tottenham defender Serge Aurier has sent an Instagram post to Ryan Sessegnon saying how proud he is of him.

Aurier spent nearly four years at Spurs after joining from Paris Saint-Germain but left the club last summer after having his contract terminated by mutual consent (Sky Sports).

The Ivory Coast international blew hot and cold at times in North London with his displays on the right flank, either being commanding or sloppy defensively.

Now at Villarreal, Aurier has seemingly been very keen to keep the friendships he created at Tottenham going strong, namely with Spurs starlet Sessegnon.

Sessegnon has been in strong form for Tottenham during the Premier League run-in and has enjoyed arguably his best stint for the club since joining from Fulham in 2019.

The England U21 international has provided a number of convincing displays at left wing-back in place of the injured Sergio Reguilon, which have helped put Spurs close to securing Champions League qualification.

And Aurier sent a message of encouragement out to Sessegnon on Instagram (18/05/22), who celebrated his 22nd birthday this week, saying: “Happy Birthday my son! I am proud of you. Keep going!”

It is nice to see that Aurier is keeping his relationships with his old Spurs colleagues strong, particularly with younger players like Sessegnon.

The youngster has been really good down this final stretch of games and he has shown why Spurs pushed hard to get him from Fulham.

He has still had his injury problems this season, but hopefully, he can go into next season fresh and able to keep as fit as possible.
