Bentaleb could be off to the World Cup

A remarkable few months for Nabil Bentaleb could be capped with the young midfielder playing in the World Cup this summer.

The 19-year-old has pledged his international future to Algeria, the country of his parents. Bentaleb had previously played for France at junior level but can switch allegiances under Fifa rules.

Before Tim Sherwood took over the reigns as Tottenham manager, Bentaleb was nowhere near the first-team plans of AVB but has really taken his opportunity under Sherwood.

“Football Federation (FAF) president Mohamed Raouraoua met with (Bentaleb), who agreed to play for the country of his parents,” read a FAF statement.

“Bentaleb will be called up for the next phase of the national team’s preparations on 1 March, ahead of the match against Slovenia on 5 March in Blida.”

Bentaleb made his Tottenham Premier League debut as a substitute in Sherwood’s first game in charge, a 3-2 victory at Southampton.
