Ernst Tanner, who has known Julian Nagelsmann for 20 years from his time as a B youth at 1860 Munich, has predicted that the German will move to the Premier League next.

Sport 1 have reported that Real Madrid have held an interest in Tottenham’s managerial target, Julian Nagelsmann, since 2018.

It has been reported over the last couple of days by various outlets that Nagelsmann, who parted ways with Bayern Munich last week, is now Tottenham’s top target to replace Antonio Conte in the summer.

The Daily Mail reported recently that Spurs have reached out to the German and are waiting for a response from his camp, with Daniel Levy said to be keen to weigh up his chances of appointing the 35-year-old before turning his attention to other candidates.

The publication added that Spurs could face competition from the likes of Real Madrid and Chelsea for Nagelsmann’s services.

Los Blacos’ interest in the recently departed Bayern coach has now been backed up by Sport 1, who assert that if Carlo Ancelotti leaves this summer, Nagelsmann could become the favourite to replace the Italian at the Santiago Bernabeu.

In fact, the report asserts that Real Madrid first made ‘loose contact’ with the German coach back when he was at Hoffenheim in 2018.

On his relationship with Nagelsmann, Tanner said (Sport1): “We’ve known and trusted each other for 20 years.”

Tanner added: “Real will definitely be an option again, but in terms of language and his interests, I see England as the next and logical step. Whether that has to be Tottenham in all haste, I dare to doubt.”

Spurs Web Opinion

By the sounds of it, Nagelsmann is guaranteed to be Real Madrid’s top target this summer should they part ways with Ancelotti.

The only hope Spurs might have is if the German is a little disillusioned with working at an elite club like Bayern Munich, where he had little control over the big decisions, and might thus decide to prove himself at a club like Spurs.

However, that is perhaps wishful thinking on my part as it will not be easy for any manager to resist the lure of Madrid.
