Napoli boss reveals Tanguy Ndombele is finally showing ‘positive signs’

Napoli boss Luciano Spalletti praised on-loan Tottenham man Tanguy Ndombele after his cameo against Rangers.

After his disappointing loan spell back at Lyon during the second half of last season, Ndombele would have hoped to hit the ground running following his loan move to Napoli in the summer.

However, the midfielder endured a tricky start to life in Italy, having been hauled off at half-time in his first two starts in Serie A.

On Wednesday, the 25-year-old showed glimpses of his quality for the first time in a Napoli shirt, producing an impressive cameo off the bench at the Ibrox as the Italian side emerged 3-0 winners in their Champions League group A clash.

After coming on in the 83rd minute in place of Piotr Zielinski, Ndombele had a hand in Napoli’s second goal before putting the icing on the cake for the Partenopei with a goal in stoppage time.

The on-loan Tottenham man earned Spalletti’s praise after scoring his first goal for the club.

The Napoli boss told the print edition of Corriere Dello Sport (16/09/22 – as relayed by Sport Witness): “If Ndombele makes himself available like that, he gives us great support.

“In Glasgow, he won important confrontations and also scored goals. These are positive signs.”

Let’s hope that Ndombele can build on this performance against Rangers and that the goal on Wednesday helps kickstarts his career in Naples. However, I am certainly not holding my breath as the Frenchman has had several false dawns over the last couple of years.
