National manager says Spurs player could get a call-up if he keeps playing well

The print edition of SportBILD (as relayed by Sport Witness) have said that Julian Nagelsmann has contacted Timo Werner to tell him that he stands a chance of making Germany’s squad for the Euros.

Werner, who has been a key part of the German national team set-up in the past, has not been in the squad over the last year but the forward will be keen to get back into the set-up ahead of the summer, with his nation hosting the Euros.

Even though the 28-year-old has impressed since his loan move to Spurs from RB Leipzig in January, he was unable to convince Nagelsmann to include him in the latest Germany squad.

Nagelsmann calls Tottenham’s Timo Werner

SportBild have now said that the Tottenham man has still not been written off from making it back into the squad and remains an option ahead of this summer’s tournament.

The report points out that Werner has a good relationship with Nagelsmann, who previously managed him at Leipzig, and that the pair share the same agent.

In fact, it is alleged that the Germany boss called the forward to explain why he had been left out of the most recent squad and told him that he could get back in if he does well for Spurs.

One of Werner’s main motivations for leaving Leipzig on loan would have been to get back into the German squad. The 28-year-old will be hungry to impress Naglesmann over the next two months and show him that he is deserving of a place in the final 23-man list.
