Danish media have suggested that Ange Postecoglou is making a mistake by leaving Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg out of Tottenham’s starting eleven.
Hojbjerg, who had been a regular in Tottenham’s starting eleven since arriving at the club from Southampton three years ago, has fallen down the pecking order this season.
With the midfield trio of Yves Bissouma, Pape Matar Sarr and James Maddison clicking brilliantly so far, the 28-year-old is yet to start a single Premier League game this campaign.
In an interview with Bold last week, Hojbjerg revealed that he has had a ‘good dialogue’ with Postecoglou regarding his role this season, adding that he is prepared to give his best whenever opportunities come his way.
The former Saints star served a reminder of his qualities during the international break, finding the back of the net against San Marino and Finland, with the latter being a late match-winner.
Two goals in two Denmark games for Hojbjerg
On the back of Hojbjerg’s performance against the Finns, Danish outlets have waxed lyrical about the Tottenham man.
BT have praised the midfielder for his ‘decisive quality and the psyche that all football teams yearn for’ and have declared that Postecoglou is making a ‘mistake’ by leaving him on the bench.
Bold added that Hojbjerg gave a ‘good fight’ against Finland, describing his winning goal as a ‘missile’ while Ekstrabladet rated him at five out of six stars, thanking him for his battling display and for his match-winner.
Spurs Web Opinion
Postecoglou evidently values Hojbejrg’s experience and his mentality, which is why the Australian has been continuously bringing on the Dane in the second half to help Spurs see out wins. However, I do not see the 28-year-old breaking into Tottenham’s starting eleven anytime soon.
