Wales boss Robert Page has claimed that Joe Rodon understands that he might need to move on from Tottenham in order to get regular game time under his belt.
Rodon’s only start under Antonio Conte came in Tottenham’s 2-1 loss to NS Mura last month in the Europa Conference League.
The Italian has revealed that he sees the Welshman as cover for Eric Dier in the middle of his back three but given Dier’s impressive form over recent weeks, the former Swansea City man may struggle to break into the side anytime soon.
Football.London reported last month that Rodon is open to the prospect of securing a loan move away from Spurs in January to get more game time.
Page has now confirmed that Rodon is indeed contemplating his future at Tottenham amid his lack of opportunities.
When asked about the Spurs defender, the Wales boss told The Daily Mail: “Joe is an unbelievable talent and rightly so got a move to a big Premier League club in Tottenham.
“But now he understands he might have to move on and play games of football because we want our best players playing week in, week out.
“Then when they turn up and play against the Belgiums of this world, if they are playing in the Premier League week in, week out then it’s not a culture for them.
“They are used to the standard and the movement of [Romelu] Lukaku or the physicality and demands that top-class football brings. That’s where we want our players.”
Spurs Web Opinion
I think Spurs will want to loan Rodon out in January so that the centre-back can get some Premier League experience under the belt. However, with Romero continuing to recover from his injury, Conte might first want to bring in another defender next month before sanctioning a loan for the Welshman.
