National team manager expected Spurs star to play more this season

Denmark manager Kasper Hjulmand has expressed his surprise at the fact that Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg has not been a regular in Tottenham’s starting lineup this season, insisting that the midfiedler can play in almost any side in world football.

Hojbjerg has been a valuable squad player this season and has started quite a few matches, particularly in the second half of the campaign.

However, he is certainly not the crucial piece of jigsaw under Ange Postecoglou as he was under the likes of Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte.

The 28-year-old’s four-year stay at Tottenham is expected to come to an end this summer, with various outlets backing him to complete a move to Serie A, where Juventus, AC Milan and Napoli have reportedly expressed an interest (Football Insider).

Denmark expected Hojbjerg to play more this season

Hojbjerg will be a key part of Denmark’s Euros campaign and Hjulmand believes that the Spurs star will be fit and raring to go this summer.

When asked about the midfielder’s lack of regular game time this season, the Denmark boss told Ekstra Bladet (as relayed by Sport Witness): “I would have thought that Pierre-Emile Højbjerg would have played more. We have a lot of data on him and know he’s on. He will come home with lots of energy, explains the national coach.

“He was really good for us in the last meeting. And I’m not too worried about him because he’s in really good shape. Pierre is a skilled player who can play for any team. He is so good that he can play on most teams in the world.”

Hojbjerg’s commitment and application can never be questioned, with the former Saints star being a model professional this season and doing a good job whenever called upon, even though it was clear quite early on that he did not have a future under Ange Postecoglou.
